How to start your own SaaS in 2024

SaaS really has been the word going around from the mouths of these trend finding internet gurus.

But what exactly is SaaS and how can you make your own? “or should you even consider it?”

There are thousands of SaaS products popping up everywhere, like AI tools, productivity tools and even tools to send your grandma a birthday message because you where too busy researching how to make money online.

Let’s dive in with a bit more detail and check some ways you can create your own Software As A Service in 2024.

What Is SaaS?

SaaS is basically a model of software licensing and delivery that works on a subscription basis and is centrally hosted. To put it simply, Its an online tool that you can sell to someone on a monthly or yearly pricing structure that serves a specific purpose to the user.

Quick examples of SaaS products.

You also get SaaS products that utilize an already built system that offers white label to sell as your own.

For example Go Phantom. Its Go High Level but looks a bit different and has its own brand, but is built on top of the High Level platform.

What Is Considered a Good SaaS?

Essentially any software that can solve a problem effectively enough for someone to want to use it, pay for it and stay with it for a long duration of time.

If you are not a fortune 500 company with the budget of Elon Musk’s fancy Tesla branded toilet paper, then your best bet is to stick with a very specific niche, that solves an even more specific problem.

Development vs White label

It’s no secret that developing your own software will take a huge amount of time and money but it can be super fulfilling and even more profitable.

Going the development route will require a few key points and then you are off to a start.

  1. Great Idea
  2. Loads of research
  3. Proof of concept
  4. Strategic partners
  5. Development team “BTW these guys are super awesome SCAD Software
  6. Hours and hours and hours of your time
  7. Loads of money
  8. and most of all, willing to risk your investment.

Now as you can see I am definitely not making it sound very enticing, that is because going that route really is a long, hard and difficult route.

However if that is something you really want to pursue, then hats off to you. I have some seriously good contacts that I can put you in touch with should you want to go this route.

This can be super fulfilling because you will be building something from the ground up and pour your soul into it.

White Label

Ah YEA!! Someone did all the work for us!

Ok I know this is not exactly as grand as building a software from scratch for a few hundred thousand dollars but…

  • The software is already built
  • There is still tons of customers that need the functionality
  • It is still yours because you will be working hard to build your brand
  • It costs a whole lot less

Let’s explore a real example of building a SaaS from scratch using a white label platform that already has everything built and then use some third party white label services to enhance it.

A great example of someone that took this model and really scaled it to a point where it easily competes with developed SaaS products.
